Janis...first photo taken April 20, 2016 -second photo October 11, 2016
I started my journey at my heaviest weight, 268 pounds, on February 14, 2016 and went to Destination Jumpstart on April 20, 2016 at 260 pounds. I had gotten to this weight through a sedentary lifestyle and bad eating habits. I was frustrated, embarrassed and scared that if something did not change I was headed to type 2 diabetes and watching my grandkids grow from the couch versus being an activate participant in their lives.
That first day at Jumpstart was so hard and I was full of fear that I could not do it – but I did! The learnings about how to exercise as well as eat for what my body needs has been life changing. I have grown strong and confident and gone from having negative self-talk to positivity. I just returned from my second Jumpstart on October 11, 2016 at 202.8 pounds. I am headed toward my ultimate goal and am over half way there. I can now run and actively play with my grandkids. I just completed my first 5K and look forward to working out. There are no special foods or pills with this program, just being aware of how much you eat and being active. Seems too easy doesn’t it…so do this for you! You will also have a network of other Jumpstart participants who support each other and many have had positive results as well. This is not a diet it is a lifestyle change so don’t wait…do it!! Janis Sandhop Just wanted to send you a big thank you. I literally feel like I came home a different person. I haven't been keeping up with my sweaty selfies the past few days, but I have worked out every day except a planned rest day to get a massage. And I have been prepping all my food and literally eating those delicious flat out pizzas for dinner every night. I've been going to the gym at night instead of sitting around, ordering pizza, and being sad. I feel like my brain clicked over from being a sad and depressed person to someone who is determined and has a plan to be successful. I know I've only been home for a week, and I'm sure it won't be this easy every week, but I just feel so good. I cannot thank you enough for your motivation and helping me to get started and the confidence to feel like I can do it. THANK YOU so much.
6/6/2018 Kelly Rodgers Everett Washington LIFESTYLE CHANGE!!!Before!
I couldn't look in a full length mirror, I hated the rolls that overflowed the top of my pants, I couldn't breathe when I climbed a small hill or a simple set of stairs, I was tired of being me, hopeless of my future and desperate for a change.
I got challenged by my mentor to take a vacation and meet Teresa, I had heard about her passion for Biggest Loser and motivating others to find a better lifestyle. None of this diet crap, but a lifestyle change that can be part of who you are until you die. I can eat whatever I desire- so there are no limitations (essentially) but rather it's making the best choices. The excitement of the possibilities intrigued me. I showed up on her door step with the desire to be a better me. My first goal was to lose 50 pounds in 6 month (something I rolled my eyes at and said 'Impossible'). I weighed in on day one at 253 pounds. After a week at the program I had already lost inches and pounds- it was remarkable. JumpStart with Teresa! She will kick your butt in the kindest way possible. She will energize you and make you believe that you can do the impossible! At 6 months I achieved my 50 pounds goal, dropped two pants sizes, I run consistently (an impossible goal before May 2011) all my health issues (bad back & knees) rarely bother me any more. I can do all the things that I thought were impossible! I can breath while hiking or doing stairs. I can run (albeit slow)! I am finally getting to a place where I am confident in who I am (physically), this lifestyle changed my life. It's been almost two years and I can truly say I am a better woman because of this program. I can't stop smiling, what a great adventure! Rochelle This is my "NO EXCUSES" client Laurie Howard....she is down over 40 lbs and she truly has adopted a NEW LIFESTYLE.....what an inspiration...here is her story so far.
I have been overweight for most of my adult life. About 4 years ago I had a total knee replacement and was able to begin exercising some after a several months of rehab. I tried many “Diets” that didn’t work and eventually I gave up and watched my weight soar. I had some back issues and it eventually got to a point where I needed a cane to walk. I tried Dr’s, Chiropractor and physical therapy. Nothing helped so I went to a surgeon and found out had 2 cysts on my spine that needed to be removed and a L3 L4 fusion was recommended. I was so tired of being out of shape and in pain, I went ahead with the surgery on December 4th 2013. It was another fairly long rehab but when I had my 6 month appointment the Dr. said I was doing great. I was still out of shape, overweight and was really tired of living in my body. I heard about Destination Jumpstart and I checked out the website way more than once. On July 9th I heard a friend of mine was going to Destination Jumpstart so I called her and asked if there was space. She said yes and Teresa welcomed me. I got my Dr. release faxed and I was on my way. I thought I was going to die but at the end of the 3 days I had such a sense of accomplishment. I continued with all I had learned about exercise and eating and I was getting good results. I had a few set back weeks but for the first time I didn’t let them stop me from continuing to work towards my goals. Because of my back and knee I have had to alter a lot of exercises that I couldn’t do in the beginning but I am able to do most everything now. Teresa is such a master at working with each person at their own level, I never felt like I was holding the others back. I am nearing 62 years old, my weight is the lowest it’s been in over 20 years and I feel younger than I have in 25 years. I just finished my 3rd Destination Jumpstart and I ran on the beach with Teresa Woods. That means so much to me. Who knew I could come this far. I can’t believe that on August 16, 2015, I was sitting at work feeling so miserable almost like I was dying inside. I barely could make it through the day, with no energy. I was so unhappy and sad, I couldn’t even stand to look at myself in the mirror. So as I sit in my office, I decided to Facebook Teresa Woods, knowing she has a passion for exercising and eating healthy. I asked her if she could tell me what I should start eating because I felt terrible. Teresa, told me that she had a client that canceled and if I could make it, to come to her place at the ocean called, “Destination Jumpstart.” I was like wow I can’t go with a 2 day notice from work and my family. I went home that night and told my husband and he looked at me and said, “You should go, this is for you!” I called a friend that is also mutual friend of Teresa and I, She encouraged me to go and do something for myself. The following day, I went to work and told them I would be out for the rest of the week. As I drove over there, I thought to myself, this is going to be my last cigarette, I’m going to change my life. I stopped and bought some nicotine patches to wear, so it wouldn’t be so hard to quite. When I arrived to Destination Jumpstart, I drove by and looking at it and went up two blocks, pulled over, and got out of my car. As I stood there, looking at the ocean, I got a cigarette out and smoked it. I said to myself, “This is it, I quit smoking,” and put on a patch. I arrived at Destination Jumpstart, got out of the car and walked in and was so surprised. I was expecting to jump right into exercising, but we didn’t. The next day, I woke up to a nice breakfast and then it started…… I walked into the work out room and could not believe the things I did, that I’ve never done before. I worked out so much and I remember looking down and seeing my patch stuck to the bottom of my shoes, and saying, “this isn’t working very well.” So needless to say the patch would not stick to me because of all the sweat. I learned how to run and exercise like a crazy lady, and learned things about me that I never knew I could do. I learned that exercise was important and I was changing my life. As Teresa said, “It’s a life change.” She was right, I was so glad she told me this because it is. It wasn’t a diet, it is a life change. So now 7 months later, I have changed everything I do. The way I eat, the friends I make, the things I do. I enjoy hiking and see all the beautiful things that are around me. I’m down 15 pounds and have loss 22.5 inches off my body. I give a big Thank you to, Teresa Woods, for starting me out on my new journey in life, and showing me how to change my life. Also, to my family for all the support that you have given me, by taking my hand and going hiking, running, or exercising with me even if you are sitting in your Jeep Sam Combs. LOL Love you. Elyce C. Hoquiam, WA So my journey with Destination Jumpstart began April 21, 2016. You walk into a beautiful home right on the beach in Moclips with a gym that has a fabulous view. Teresa greats you with this great big smile and gets right to business. I could write a novel here cuz I cannot say enough about this experience. You learn how to eat, exercise and begin to change your lifestyle. Everyone is different and you learn how to do it for you and your body and your goals. There are no special food you have to eat just learning how to balance life really. I have lost 41 pounds since April 21 (10 before I went) and have lost 51 so far in total this year. I go back for another round at Destination Jumpstart in October. I have 56 more to go and in the past I would have thought impossible but not anymore. I am loving my new lifestyle...and so is my doctor who told me last December I was heading toward type 2 diabetes if I didn't make some changes and I saw her in May and she was shocked and thrilled. Ok I will stop now but if anyone is out there wanting and needing to do something for themselves look into this opportunity. Feel free to share with your friends and family 😊 Janis Sandhop Seattle WA 8/10/16 Shout out to Arlene Jones she left Destination Jumpstart 5 weeks ago and is down 23 lbs....here is her letter to me with amazing perspective :) Teresa, So I have been thinking about why I have been experiencing such success since returning from Destination Jumpstart. I wish it was just one thing – shorter note for sure – but it’s not “A” thing. Some things that have really stood out. It’s not a diet, it’s a lifestyle: You said it so many times, and I have repeated it. I really think that I’ve taken it to heart. Making that first weekly menu I had to consider what does the date night out to our favorite restaurant, complete with my favorite drink look like? And then I considered what the rest of the day needed to look like. It wasn’t about giving it up, but just about adjustments. I kind of liken it to taking a vacation. I can’t go on a cruise to the Caribbean every time I want to, I just don’t have that much money or time off. BUT, if I budget, if I go without a few things now and then, I can afford to go every few years. I don’t think of that as a budgetary “diet”, it’s just good financial responsibility. I would be really missing something if I didn’t say having an accountability buddy didn’t make a huge impact. Greg, as I imagined, has been an amazing workout buddy. He eats the food, he wonders about calories, he “5, 4, 3, 2, 1’s” me out the door when needed. We have worked out together side-by-side almost every day. Without his support and encouragement I wouldn’t be nearly as successful – because while the nutrition is 80%, that physical commitment with its calorie burning make a huge difference! Making you and Elyce proud (also Janis – gonna totally hug that woman when I meet her!) is also so important to me. I feel so good about myself when I get those wonderful comments from the Destination Jumpstart family. None of this above is news, but I was thinking of something that might be new…and maybe helpful… I saw some people posting that they hadn’t posted for a while, or saw the scale move in the wrong direction because they weren’t really recording what they ate, or were busy, or were stressed. It made me think about time and why I did this in the first place. See it was a good chunk of money to go and spend 6 days with you, and it was a good amount of time. Time that I didn’t work, or tend to a number of things that daily demand my attention. I made the decision to invest in myself – in money and time. I was led to that decision because I didn’t feel good about where my life was at or heading and wanted a change. So I added it up 6 days @ 24 hours a day…ok, let’s take off 8 hours for sleeping…I invested 96 hours, or 576 minutes. Those minutes are the most valuable asset I have and my decisions on where to spend them are critical and important. I invested them in my future, a future I planned out at Destination Jumpstart based on goals that I set for me. If upon coming home I don’t work out, then every stair at Seabrook, every weight lifted in Moclips is wasted. If upon coming home I don’t record what I eat, then all that time writing calories, and recording calories burned is all wasted. I figure I spend about 5 minutes a day recording what I eat and do. So the way I see it, going for 576 minutes and then not doing something that takes 5 minutes, that’s crazy. ESPECIALLY if I am a busy woman. It will take 115 days logging food to equal the deposit of time I made in Moclips. Imagine how much weight I will have lost by then! So that’s kinda how my mind has been working. Each Monday I step on the scale and it is not with fear – for the first time in years! It is knowing that each day in the past week I’ve done the work needed to control the scale. And if I didn’t do what was needed, I already know because it’s right there in my planner. Each day’s food and drink, each day’s work out, each day’s ab work…Busy people can’t afford to waste time. So that’s it now Peter Pan. I really DO believe I can do this. I believe I can run, I believe I can lift weights, do sit ups, someday I’ll even be able to do a real push up J. Oh, and I’ve been in some kind of sore pain every day since I left Moclips. Never knew you could get a cramp in your butt, and I think I’ve felt every one of the four muscles in my quads. And I’ve climbed mountains, hiked into backwoods, hiked a portion of the PCT, and am running four days a week. All in all, it has been one of the best investments I’ve ever made in my life. Thanks for all your support, energy and knowledge. Arlene Kennewick WA I am a 68 year old writer on her third career. I weigh more than 200 pounds and have arthritic knees. I came to Jumpstart in January 2017. I found out about the program online while sitting at my computer, fed up with my health and my increasing weight gain. I live on a tiny island. No gym. No personal trainer. No pool. Walking hurt my knees too much to be a significant source of calorie burning. "Maybe a fat camp would help," I thought. Unfortunately the only ones I found were in Utah and California and were astronomically priced. Then I found one in Washington State - Jumpstart - and tried to sign up. ACK. It was full in October. And this person (the one and only staff member) Teresa Woods told me she takes November and December off. I was bummed. I kept my resolve until January but then found out I was the ONLY person signed up for the week I could go. EEK. I was going to pay good money for this? Just miserable me with this unknown woman in this unknown house for a week of punishment in this podunk town? Or maybe I could wait until March after our yearly camping vacation in Central America. Don't tempt me! (I'm sure Teresa might've been secretly hoping I'd put if off. It makes NO financial sense to do a Jumpstart for just one person). I almost cancelled. But I didn't. Instead, I mustered my courage and took off on a six-hour car+2ferry trip to Moclips, Washington. There was a huge lump in my throat as I followed the directions and pulled into a nondescript driveway. What happened next was that I met this amazing Teresa woman - full of nurturing compassion, indefatigable energy, endless knowledge, empowering enthusiasm and commitment beyond belief. She focused 100% of her energy on ME. Imagine! Instead of being lonely, I felt insanely lucky that no one else had signed up. (Though I was incredibly fortunate to have success story Elyce Chase join us for a few days.) I learned so much. I got sorta high on elevated heart rate and sweat. I learned to eat mindfully. I learned to count calories and make choices. I learned I could do much more than I thought. I learned how to exercise without stressing my knees. It was an amazing and varied week. I cried and struggled and sweated and laughed and panted. And I loved myself. I can't tell you a whole story here. I am just beginning my journey. I came home and went grocery shopping and tweaked my meals and made major snack changes. I gave up 90% of my Italian addiction to olive oil. I put a treadmill on the porch and began a routine. I LOVE my treadmill. I use weights by the TV. I eat mindfully. I am down a mere 12 pounds. But I feel hopeful and empowered. Teresa and her program are amazing. I highly recommend her. Carole, Washington State Absolutely amazing place to get your jumpstart on a lifestyle change. Location is awesome, house is beautiful with all the gym equipment you need. A great mix of gym and outdoor workouts. Teresa really spends time getting to know each person there and truly cares about her clients (new friends). She motivates, inspires and is able to take you on this incredible journey to wellness and happiness. I highly recommend anybody who ever doubted what they were truly capable of doing to sign up. It really is empowering! Take this first step you will be so glad you did. What an amazing weekend!!! I am down 3.5 pounds. I don't think that I could ever be the same after the Destination Jumpstart experience. Thank you Teresa for showing me what I am capable of. I am so excited to begin a journey of health!! Jeana Everett, WA I attended a mini-jumpstart in July of this year. I went because I felt that my fitness was the weakest area of my life and I really wanted to get a handle on it. I wanted to learn how to exercise and how to be healthier. I got all of that and more in those 3 days in July!! First of all, the location is beautiful, the accommodations are inviting and comfortable and Teresa is simply the best. She makes you feel so welcome and she is sincerely glad you are there! You get individualized attention and she really helps you define your goals and a plan to meet them. I learned so many things about myself, what I was capable of and left with a sense of understanding and empowerment. I walked away thinking for the first time in my life, “I got this”. I left with a plan in place, the experience and knowledge that I was capable of carrying out my plan and also the ongoing support of an amazing group of people. My husband said it best when I returned home, he said, “I can tell that this was a transformative experience for you.” It truly was and I will always be grateful for my time at Destination Jumpstart. I highly recommend this experience to anyone, no matter your goals, no matter your fitness level, there is something here for you. Do it, you will be glad you came! · Susan P. Aberdeen, WA· Awesome adventure into a new healthy lifestyle! Teresa motivates and inspires you during the process. She loves what she does and it shows! The location is excellent and the workouts are indoors and outdoors. If you have been looking for a fresh start she is the one that can help you! Beth S. Kirkland, WA· I've been to a couple bootcamps and this one is by far the best!! Teresa does a great job of not only working your butt out during the workouts, but also enabling you to eat healthy when you get back home. I am not big on cooking but I walked away with a couple simple super helpful tricks that I was able to incorporate into my lifestyle. Hers is the most balanced program I've seen where she incorporates online tools/apps with portion control and hard work. When you leave, you definitely feel empowered to conquer the world!! And after, she truly is there for support, advice, etc. BIG difference from the boot camps I've been to. I highly recommend and will be going back simply because I enjoyed it so much!!· Lori T. Portland, OR· Why wait? If you are ready to make a powerful change in your life, go directly to Destination Jumpstart! Teresa is an excellent trainer and is able to take you through workouts that are fun and challenging. The Moclips location is amazing! When you return home, from Destination Jumpstart, Teresa makes sure you are set up for success and remains in contact with you. Destination Jumpstart...highly recommended! Paula S. Culpeper, VA There is a lovely home located on the coast of Washington State where I attended Destination Jumpstart...a food and fitness education facility. Now, I have attended fitness resorts before...The Biggest Loser at Fitness Ridge and Green Valley Spa...both in Utah, but never received the level of individualized attention and particularly the food education that I received at Destination Jumpstart. Teresa is a ball of energy taking us running on the beach, climbing the stairs from hell, and hiking in an ancient rain forest. She is really supportive, concerned for your health and well being and truly works to make your experience a meaningful one. For many people, the larger resorts may be the answer, but I prefer the smaller, more intimate feel of Destination Jumpstart and the follow up that occurs long after your stay there... You become family with a vested interested in the other's success and the fact that the facility only houses a few people at a time, means you get to make lifelong friendships and gain a knowledgeable support system. And it is just plan fun!!! Also, the price is right. You get so much more for your money at Destination Jumpstart. I've seen the prices of the other resorts go skyrocketing to unattainable levels. Destination Jumpstart provides beautiful housing in a beautiful location with delicious food and myriad fitness experiences both indoors and out, at a very, very reasonable price. If this is the year you want to get in shape and reach your fitness goals, jumpstart them at Destination Jumpstart...you will never be in better hands!!! Sherry B. Benton City, WA I friend of mine posted "Destination Jumpstart" on Facebook. I spoke her and asked "What is this Destination Jumpstart?" She told me it was a business one of her clients had started to help people get back into fitness and this Teresa lady who owned this business lived in our area (East side of Washington State), but the main business was in Moclips, Washington (West side of Washington State). I have never heard of Moclips! After figuring out where Moclips was, I went to the Destination Jumpstart website and was even more intrigued, it's beautiful there. The first email to Destination Jumpstart was the easiest, yet hardest thing I ever did. I was finally saying I NEED HELP! Teresa made me feel so comfortable in our communications as well as in her home at Moclips. I enjoy exercising, but had gotten away from a regular routine. I was so out of shape, but willing to give it my all after all what did I have to lose? My right knee had two surgeries for a torn meniscus so I was concerned about pain. With guidance I have built muscle around my knee which is what physical therapy said to do quite some time ago. My knee hasn't bothered me at all with the personal routine established for me! In the past every time I tried to use the elliptical my knee would hurt the next day, but now I am up to 10 minutes straight with no pain, just a lot of sweat. I continue to grow in strength but not in pant size. The Destination Jumpstart page for members only has been such an encouragement, support, sounding board, group of people who understand where you've come from and where you want to go I just want to hug them all. Destination Jumpstart is always there if we have any questions, need to talk to Teresa and she keep us on the up and up with weigh in, even though there are those tough weeks. I would highly recommend anyone participate in Destination Jumpstart, you won't regret it and it's amazing how much you learn about yourself when you spend 6 days concentrating on YOU! After all, it's the rest of your life you have to look forward to. P.S. To Whom Ever may read this, I am 5'2" and started Destination Jumpstart 7/14/13 at 274 pounds and size 24. I am now 237 pounds 2/20/14 size 16/18 Sherry Benton City, Washington Today is the first day of the rest of my life. 11 months ago, I booked an appointment with Destination Jumpstart by Teresa Woods. The results speak for themselves, but what you don't see in the photo is what is MOST important.
I never thought I could lose weight by loving the food I ate (not depriving), enjoying my workouts (not torturing myself), and nurturing myself every step of the way. I have found the support that I needed, everyday through our Jumpstart Family! If you are looking for the tools you need to take charge of your life, Destination Jumpstart is the place for you! -Mary Flanagan |
